Sarah Crosland says goodbye to CharlotteFive

This was my last podcast (and today is my last day) with CharlotteFive, which is how I talked Corey into letting me write this article.

On the C5 Podcast this week we talk about its humble origins (in an abandoned office talking about ghosts) and some of our favorite memories from the past 80 episodes (mostly fried chicken and strip clubs). And hopefully our producer Richard Brooke edited out some of my sappy monologue about how much I’m going to miss this team. (But seriously, these guys are the best.)

We also interviewed my potential replacement as co-host, Sallie Funderburk, and had her try out for the coveted role by talking about upcoming restaurant openings. Do people endorse podcast co-host candidates? Because I’d like to offer Sallie my full endorsement. Sallie’s only real flaw is being funnier than me, but otherwise she’ll be perfect for the job.

I won’t ramble on too much because there’s enough of me doing that on the podcast. But today is my last day as an official member of the media, something I’ve been my entire adult career. So I figure if there was ever a moment to take advantage of having a platform, this is it. (Sorry, Corey, I’ve totally hijacked this article as my farewell now.)

Calling this job an honor doesn’t even come close. I have loved every second of sharing this city’s stories — from interviewing a civil rights activist on the podcast to featuring a nonprofit leader in one of the Observer’s magazines to doing a quick Q&A with a chef for CharlotteFive. And, of course, I’ve only been able to do it because of the incredibly talented coworkers and freelancers with whom I work.

So thank you for reading and listening, and for being a community that cares — and thank you for letting me share in this little part of your Charlotte experience. I really can’t express what a pleasure it’s been.
