Small Business: How Enventys Partners makes your ideas become a reality

Roy Morejon opened Command Partners in 2010 as a marketing firm with an emphasis on crowdfunding. Morejon, 36, saw an opportunity to offer a full-service company to clients – from idea to distribution – by merging with Enventys (pronounced “en-ven-tis”), a manufacturing facility in San Diego.

“We had so many entrepreneurs and startups that came to us with their ideas and inventions,” Morejon said.

Before the merger, Morejon would tell potential clients to get their first product or build completed and then come back for the crowdfunding and marketing campaigns. In January 2017, the two companies formed Enventys Partners.

“The inventor or the startup can come to us with their idea on a napkin and we can say, ‘Yeah, we’ll do your initial trademark research, patent research, we’ll build your initial prototype,’” Morejon said. “’We can do the initial photography in-house. We can do the videography in-house now. We can run your crowdfunding campaign in-house.’”

Enventys Partners does product manufacturing, packaging, shipping and logistics. The headquarters are in Charlotte with offices in New York, Chicago and Orlando, and a manufacturing facility in San Diego. The company receives 100-150 new inquiries a day.

Morejon answered CharlotteFive’s questions for the Small Business Series:

How do you attract new business?

“Command Partners focused on creating amazing content that helps solve people’s problems, in terms of, their startup, their marketing, targeting and finding customers.

“We did the same thing for ourselves [Enventys Partners], created awesome content that people were sharing and that people were Googling most often.”

(If you look up “Kickstarter marketing,” Enventys Partners are high on the list of search results.)

What’s your philosophy on leadership?

“I’m more of a light touch kind of a person. Once I hire the right person, I like to give someone the map, but let them decide on how to get to the destination.”

How do strong relationships and good products build a business?

“When we launched a crowdfunding campaign, the only thing that mattered was the product. Is there enough audience for it? Can we find them [audience] online? Can we get people to write about it and find the product interesting?

“We wouldn’t get people to write about it if we didn’t already have those relationships. I think for a small business, relationships are everything.”

What’s an example of something you’re working on?

“Two startup founders from Duke University had an idea. Their company name is Inirv. They came to us wanting to make homes safer and smarter. They created the world’s first device that turns off your stove automatically if you leave it burning for a certain amount of time.

“They came to us. They had some sketches and really rough prototypes. We ended up building out all of the prototypes. We raised over $175,000 for their campaign. We used a lot of our strategic relationships and product’s buzz to generate a potential licensing deal with a major corporation. They will have this technology on all of their stoves worldwide as they roll out new versions of their stove tops.”

If you had $1,000 a week to apply to a crowdfunding campaign, what would you support this week?

“My favorite campaign that we are currently doing is our 21st million-dollar-plus crowdfunding campaign. This would be for my wife — it’s a pair of hi-tech heels that are custom fit to your foot. That’s where I’d spend my first couple hundred dollars.

“Then there’s TreePod, a spacious hanging retreat for your home or office. Basically, it’s like a portable cabana. It’s shaped like this really cool pod that you can lay in with friends or hang in yourself. I would buy this for my employees.”

Family history and my own fascination with people and their motivations prompted me to begin this series about Charlotte’s small business owners. Industry, situation and questions will vary.
