C5 Checklist: Things to Do this weekend | Oct. 19-22
Nothing says “it’s the weekend” quite like turning off your desktop. Read this, then let’s get offline.
(1) Make Your Way to the Top for Movies on the Deck: “Hocus Pocus”
Thursday, 6:45 p.m. Free. 400 S. Tryon St.
Bring your blankets and lawn chairs up to the top level of the 400 S. Tryon parking deck to get in the Halloween spirit with a free outdoor movie (“Hocus Pocus”), snacks, beer and live music. This is a partnership with Charlotte Center City and Susie Films. The Halloween classic kicks off at 8 p.m., but there will be live music beginning at 6:45 p.m., free popcorn and JJ’s Red Hots for purchase.
(2) Wind Your Way Through the Amazing Maize Maze
Friday, $11. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Historic Rural Hill, 4431 Neck Road, Huntersville
Get lost and (hopefully found) in a seven acre corn maze featuring over two miles of paths. Check the schedule for updated hours and night maze dates. You can also take a hayride around the farm, play a round of corn-hole, explore the historic site, hike trails, pick a pumpkin in October and have a picnic.
(3) Get Rowdy at the Roller Derby
Saturday, 5 p.m. $10-$12. Grady Cole Center, 310 N Kings Dr.
Different sport, same ritual! Come tailgate, chill and cheer on the Charlotte Roller Girls as they use speed, strategy and athleticism to fend off the other team. Not many are familiar with the cultish sport that is the Roller Derby. With retro vibes, fierce competition and all the luxuries of more mainstream sporting events (yeah, we’re talking tailgating and beer), an outing to watch The Charlotte Roller Girls will definitely be an experience to remember.
(4) Dance the Night Away at All Hallows’ Twirl 2017: Fright Night
Saturday, 10 p.m. $15-$20. Flight Charlotte, 314 N College St.
Get ready for tricks and treats as Halloween comes a week early at the All Hallows’ Twirl 2017: Fright Night. Costumes are encouraged and DJ Neon the Glowgobear will be spinning all night.
(5) Dress Up Your Pup for Howl-O-Ween
Sunday, 4-7 p.m. Free. Birdsong Brewing Co., 1016 N. Davidson St.
Head to Birdsong for North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue’s first ever dog-friendly Howl-O-Ween. Sign your pooch up for the pet costume contest, enter the raffle and more. The Howl-O-Ween costume contest participation fee is a donation ($10 is recommended) to North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue and can either be given prior to the event on their website or on site.
