Deaf actress and psychologist Julianne Gold Brunson sounds off at CreativeMornings

CreativeMornings/Charlotte marked the chapter’s inaugural year Dec. 16 with a “First Birthday Party” and explored the month’s global theme of “Sound.” The group celebrated with a couple of surprise opening musical numbers, guest visitors from CreativeMornings’ Brooklyn headquarters, a video message from CreativeMornings founder Tina Roth Eisenburg, and live music from the CM/CLT house band, RevelWood Mission.

CreativeMornings/Charlotte’s host Matt Olin also shared that the group’s focus in 2017 will be inspiring others to find their voices, to discover creative ways for those voices to be heard, and to amplify the creative energy already well at work in Charlotte.

One of the highlights of the morning was the unpredictable choice of speaker – Julianne Gold Brunson, a local psychologist and actress who was born deaf and starred in the original Tony Award-winning Broadway production of “Children of a Lesser God.” Gold shared how her deafness has shaped her ability to hear her internal voice, and she then challenged the nearly 400 attendees to learn to shift their perspective and find their own internal voice.
