This past week, I attended my daughter’s Valentine’s Day party. All the kids had decorated their shoe boxes for their Valentine’s Day cards. Well, some made theirs– the others were apparently conceptualized and executed by world-renowned interior decorators and, thanks to Pinterest, I’ve come to expect that.

What I didn’t expect, though, was the connection I felt to another parent over something very inappropriate. One of the kids (ok, it was mine ) was upset that a Blow Pop wouldn’t fit in her box. She cried out, “My hole isn’t big enough. I can’t get it in!” I did a spit take of the heart-shaped sugar cookie I was eating and was trying to regain my composure when I caught the eye of another parent who also was biting her jaw to not channel Michael Scott with, “That’s what she said!”

I often feel that people think that once you create life, that you are no longer allowed a sense of humor. That’s not true at all and there plenty of QC parents that show off their comedic chops on social media.

Five local parents to follow:

The one who has dad jokes for days

Jake Fehling

Insta Bio: Husband. Dad. Tall.

Screen Shot 2017-02-15 at 6.27.36 PM

Where to follow: Twitter and Instagram

Handle: @jakefehling

Jake Fehling is the father to three kids and he captures the insanity that is included with that on Twitter and Instagram. Fehling skips the perfectly posed pictures of his brood whimsically throwing fall leaves at each other and captures the real life of parenting. So, his Instagram is filled with a lot of half dressed kids and his #dadfails.

The one who talks on the radio and really, really loves her cats

Sheri Lynch

Where to follow: Twitter and Instagram

Handle: @sherilynch (Twitter), @sherilynch1 (Instagram)

Insta Bio: Radio’s Bob & Sheri. Badass at cleaning up crap & remembering to buy milk. Science geek. Book nerd. Novice tap dancer. Dance mom. Crazy cat/dog lady.

Sheri Lynch is not only half of the award-winning, Charlotte-based, nationally syndicated radio show “Bob & Sheri” and author of two best selling books, she is also a “dedicated minder of other people’s business.” This desire to peek into the lives of others makes her social media game strong. And, yes, Sheri gives as good as she gets. Her posts are equal parts hilarious, profound and crazy cat lady.

The ones who stand a better chance of creating world peace than keeping their houses clean

Ashley Taylor and Lisa Farnham (Dose of Reality)

Where to follow: Twitter and Instagram

Handle: @thedosetweets (Twitter), @thedosegirls (Instagram)

Insta Bio: We’re Lisa & Ashley. We’re likely sitting in an old minivan in a carpool line somewhere.

The Dose of Reality is made up of the dynamic (and, by dynamic I mean tired) duo of Ashley Taylor and Lisa Farhham. They strongly believe in telling it like it is, like it really is, even if that means admitting that they aren’t “baking in our vintage Valentino white pantsuits like Charlotte in the second ‘Sex and the City.’” I’m just trying not to be upset about them busting me out…I’ve been telling my family for years that I don’t bake because of my lack of vintage Valentino white pantsuits.

The one who reminds us that women are funny, damn it

Tracy Lee Curtis

Handle: @TracyLeeCurtis1 (Twitter), @tleecurtis (Instagram)

Twitter Bio: Mom | Humorist | Speaker | Award-Winning Author | Former Humor Columnist for the Charlotte Observer

“Tracy on the Red Carpet” by Tracy Lee Curtis was CharlotteObserver.com’s first blog. “Tracy on the Red Carpet” was wildly popular and led to a second blog, “Stork Raving Mad – 40 and Pregnant.” That blog led to her own column and that column led to her book, “Holidazed.” On social media, Tracy keeps us up to date on her family, her books and her second career as her kids’ taxi driver.

 The one who keeps pounding

Greg Olsen

Ok, I don’t know if would necessarily say that Greg Olsen’s social media accounts are knee-slapping funny. However, he deserves an exception because he’s just such a dang good guy and I am still salty that he didn’t win the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. Plus, his family is absolutely adorable.
