Morgan Whitley, 25, from Mint Hill, and and Jordan Singor, 26, from Bracebridge, Ontatrio, Canada, met thanks to a mutual friend in Charlotte. Jordan and Morgan began talking long distance until they were finally able to go on their official first date.

“He was so smooth!” Morgan says.

Jordan wooed her and proposed a year and half later in dramatic fashion on the rooftop at Fahrenheit in uptown Charlotte.

MoJo, as they call themselves, tied the knot on October 7, 2016, at Champagne Manor in Monroe, N.C. While the hurricane threw a wrench into their lakeside nuptials, they relocated to a tent where Morgan’s grandfather married them in a sentimental ceremony that incorporated sweet personal touches. Morgan and Jordan tied a braided rope to symbolize the three pillars of their marriage: him, her, and God.

But one of the most magical moments of the day happened in an instant that was almost overlooked. When Morgan was 14 years old, her dad died suddenly.

“I prayed for God to send me a butterfly as a sign to let me know he was happy and safe with Jesus,” says Morgan. “It took several minutes but then I suddenly saw a yellow butterfly fluttering around me.”

Thanks to the hurricane, it was drizzling on the day of the wedding. Morgan was outside taking bridal shots when her photographer spotted something: a yellow butterfly fluttering behind Morgan—in the rain.

“I lost it,” Morgan says. “Every girl wants her dad to approve of the man she wants to marry and walk her down the aisle. I didn’t get to have such a luxury. But seeing a butterfly in the rain was God’s way of showing me that my dad was there.”
