CharlotteFive Book Club: ‘The Singularity Race’ by Mark de Castrique
ICYMI, last month was CharlotteFive’s inagural book club with Park Road Books, the goal being to partner with a local bookstore while getting more people acquainted with Charlotte-area novelists.
For the month of April, we are reading “The Singularity Race” by Mark de Castrique. And just like last month, Park Road Books makes it possible for us to connect with local writers and authors, and as a special treat for C5 readers it’s offering 20 percent off our book club book each month.
Unlike the majority of De Castrique’s books, “The Singularity Race” is a stand-alone novel, not tied in to any of his other series. Set in DC, this political science fiction novel based on artificial intelligence follows an ex-secret-service agent through a mission that leads him from the capital to the mountains of North Carolina fighting the Singularity.
Think “X-Files” or “OA” meets “Burn After Reading,” with a heavy dose of “1984.”
While ours is a virtual book club, we encourage you to read along with us and maybe even a group of friends, for an in-person book club meeting at the end of the month. You can also tell us what you think about the book using the hashtag #CLT5BookClub.
Looking for somewhere outside of the house to read? We suggest picking up your book and then hanging out at Park Road Books. With a few wing-back chairs, a quiet atmosphere, and just a walk down the way from Caribou Coffee, you can channel your inner introvert and escape the pulls of a loud coffee shop or big-name bookstore.
Stay tuned to find out what we’re reading next month!
