Put your paws together for CharlotteFive’s Top Dog

The CharlotteFive Top Dog contest was a tight race, that’s fur sure. It might sound far-fetched, but we tallied more than a thousand votes from C5 readers.
We know picking just one of the 10 furry finalists was ruff — they were all pawsitively adorable. When we asked for submissions, we were definitely barking up the right tree.
But there could only be one winner — or should we say wiener?*
Without further ado, put your paws together for C5’s Top Dog: Nellie, the 6-month-old long-haired miniature Dachshund!
Just look at that face!
D’AWWWWW
THOSE EARS!

OK, let’s take a break from those adorable puppy photos to learn more about that sweet face.
As the winner of C5’s Top Dog contest, sponsored by The Sporting Gent, Nellie will walk away with a one week free stay at Tuscarora’s Country Club for Dogs and a Waggle Company gift basket that includes brand-name dog toys, a dog food measuring cup and $30 in Waggle credit to be used for dog walking services.
We couldn’t interview Nellie — well we could, but we probably couldn’t understand her answers — so we asked her mom, Logan Moore, seven questions.
(1) When/where/how did you get Nellie?
“I got Nellie on November 25 (Black Friday, and no she was not on sale). She came from Benny’s Dachshund in Wilmington. She’s a true Carolina girl. I had been searching for an English Cream Mini Dachshund for a while and came across Benny’s on Facebook!”
(2) Are we more likely to see Nellie at a brewery or a dog park?
“Definitely more likely to see her (at) a brewery. Mainly Sycamore and Triple C.”
(3) What’s the most expensive thing Nellie has destroyed?
“Just a phone charger. We learned to keep everything up high while she was teething.”
(4) What’s Nellie’s favorite park?
“FREEDOM!! She loves to people watch.”
(5) What’s her favorite treat?
“Her pink Kong filled with peanut butter.”
(6) What’s her best trick?
“We’re still learning cool tricks. She can do sit, lay down and stay very well. All thanks to puppy classes at Petco!”
(7) Is there anything else we should know about Nellie?
“Nellie loves to take walks down the light rail (trail) to make new friends. She will stop to play with everyone and every dog that shows her attention. So say ‘Hi’ if you ever see her. She also loves to talk … she will make all sorts of noises! When she is told ‘no’ she will yelp and then swat her paw (in a playful way).”
You can follow Nellie on Instagram @nellie_theminidox. And definitely check out all of the other finalists here because they’re all amazingly cute. The voting was really, really tight, with Nellie winning by just 2 percent.
OK just one more pic:
*We know those first few paragraphs were painful, but we couldn’t help it. Please don’t unsubscribe because of our awful dog puns.
