C5 Underground: Common Market OakWold to open May 3 -- but here’s how you can get inside earlier
The sign is up, the mismatched furniture is arranged and the random, kitschy decorations are on the wall. Charlotte’s newest Common Market is almost ready to open.
Common Market OakWold, in Oakhurst and near Cotswold, will open next Wednesday, May 3. But since you’re awesome and read C5, you can get in early.
Our next #C5Underground event is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, at the new Common Market, and it gives you a chance to get inside the space, and grab a beer or wine and some snacks before it opens to the public.

Here’s what to expect at the new Common Market:
– The location is about 6,500 square feet, with an outdoor space in the front.
– Common Market OakWold will have many of the things you’ve come to love at other locations — beer, wine, snacks, coffee and a deli.
– Unlike other Common Market locations, this one has a large, U-shaped bar with 15 taps.
– But like other Common Markets, this one has some of the funky touches reminiscent of the Plaza Midwood and old South End locations, from mismatched furniture to animal heads on the wall and “Sexy Power” spelled out above the front door.
There are even some elements straight out of the old South End location, like these sticker-filled cabinet fronts that now decorate the patio wall.
