(1) Start the weekend with Alive After Five
Thursday, May 4. Free. 5 p.m. EpiCentre, 210 E Trade St.
How does a huge happy hour with two live bands, a wine and beer garden brimming with tasty beverages sound? Sounds like it’s exactly what we need on a Thursday evening. Each week, Alive After Five invites a band to play on the roof and another to play in the plaza courtyard. The assortment of beverages will also change each week, but there will always be 10 different wines and beers to choose from. (A $10 ticket gives a sample of five different beverages.)
(2) Rock out at Carolina Rebellion
Friday, Saturday, Sunday May 5,6, 7. $120+. Friday: 11:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Charlotte Motor Speedway, 5555 Concord Pkwy S., Concord.
If you don’t know what Carolina Rebellion is, it’s probably not for you. If you do, then you’ve probably been waiting all year for this three-day hard rock and heavy metal music festival! The lineup includes Soundgarden, Mastodon and The Cult. Get tickets here.
(3) Enjoy Cinco de Mayo Dinner at Legion Brewing
Friday, May 5. $35. 10:30 p.m. Legion Brewing, 1906 Commonwealth Ave.
Legion wants to satisfy your taste buds this Cinco de Mayo with their pan of Paella dinner prepared on site by Roots Catering and the tapping of their margarita-inspired gose, Juan Direction. The gose was brewed with limes and oranges that were juiced, zested and soaked in tequila
(4) Dress to impress at Derby Days
Saturday, May 6. $30+. 3 p.m. Mint Museum Randolph, 2730 Randolph Road.
Don your biggest hat, your snappiest seersucker and make sure you’re ready to suck down a Mint Julep, because The Mint Museum is throwing a classy affair on the lawn for The Kentucky Derby. Join the Young Affiliates of the Mint for an afternoon of drinking and dancing on the lawn before “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.” Enjoy live music from the Time Sawyer band, lawn games, free wine and beer, food trucks, 50/50 raffle and a large-screen viewing of the Kentucky Derby.
(5) Ogle art at Kings Drive Art Walk
Saturday-Sunday, May 6-7. Free. Little Sugar Creek Greenway.
For one weekend a year, a stroll down the Greenway is packing a lot more than good views. The Art Walk, an extension of Festival in the Park, brings art in all forms, food trucks and live music. The Art Walk is in its seventh year and going stronger than ever. Dozens of artists working in jewelry, ceramics, painting and more will be displaying and selling their art along the greenway, while live jazz floats through the air and cirque performers practice their live art form. Come out ready to buy or just to take a nice walk in the park, browse and get some food truck eats and sweets.
