How to make the most of an afternoon trip to Jetton Park

I am a park enthusiast, some may say nerd. I have been to most parks in Mecklenburg County several times. I was a volunteer park ambassador for a few years – even wore the bright yellow shirt with the title emblazoned across the back – patrolling the neighborhood parks for problems to report. (I warned you…park nerd. And yes, I was a resident advisor in college.)

Parks are one of the reasons I love Charlotte and a main reason I have stayed.

Jetton Park is a favorite. Quiet, shady trails with a view of Lake Norman make it an ideal place to visit when you want to get away from the city, but only have an afternoon to spare. It is a quick drive north on I-77 to this 104-acre park in Cornelius.

Things to do

– Enjoy the view of Lake Norman in one of the swinging benches.

– Bring buckets and shovels for the kids to dig on the beach.

– Walk, jog or bike the trails.

– Sign up for one of the triathalon races.

– Throw a ball or frisbee on the beach.

– Plan a cookout for family and friends.

– Walk your dog on one of the trails.

– Arrange a formal or informal photoshoot for engagement, wedding or family photos.

–  Play tennis.

– Plan a family reunion or a corporate outing.
