Get stoked for Stoke, the new restaurant and bar coming to Marriott City Center in uptown
When Chris Coleman announced in May that he was leaving The Asbury to develop a new restaurant concept at the Marriott City Center, there weren’t a lot of details about what the newly spiffed-up Marriott would feature.
It’s expected to open in mid- to late August. The menu is still shaping up, but we have some tantalizing details to share:
The name: Stoke, and a new beverage spot called Stoke Bar.
The menu: Still being finalized, but expect lots of things cooked in a Beech wood-burning oven, some slow-roasted overnight, some hearth-cooked. Breakfast and dinner will include slow-roasted lamb shoulder (as hash at breakfast, as a main at dinner).
More on dinner: Expect Charred Watermelon Steak with cucumber, crab, mint and chiles, house-baked pretzel brioche served in cast iron skillets, country ham and cheeses cut to order, among other things.
More on breakfast: Whipped Yogurt Parfait with sorghum peach confit, muffin croutons, and a Red-Eye Bowl with Carolina Gold rice grits, country ham bits and Forte Legato red-eye gravy. And more, for sure.
Lunch? Of course: Hearth-cooked dishes will include a Sausage Plate with potato salad, sour cabbage and house pickles, a quinoa-based Grain Bowl, a burger with bacon jam and a Crispy Catfish sandwich with celery remoulade, tomato and red onion.
About that bar: A few steps up from the restaurant, Stoke Bar is aiming to be a center city meeting spot, with an 18-seat copper bar, 17 local draft beers, cider, and nitro cold-brew coffee from Forte Legato. The beer selection is planned to have small-producer exclusives and Charlotte premieres, sometimes with just one or two kegs.
