(1) Explore the Duke Mansion gardens.
The Duke Mansion’s open house Aug. 21 already sold out, but there’s another way you can explore the grounds of the beautiful and historic Myers Park mansion this summer. The mansion will be hosting Cocktails & Gardens at the Duke Mansion 5-8 p.m. every Monday-Thursday in August. Stroll through more than four acres of gardens and take advantage of the cash bar. No reservations required.
(2) Go back to school — with a drink in hand.
This month’s Science on the Rocks at Discovery Place has a Back to School theme, complete with The Dirty Spelling Bee, Field Day Activities and more. You could also grab a drink and check out the Beyond Rubik’s Cube exhibit before it closes. Discovery Place partnered with Classroom Central to collect school supplies for low income students in Charlotte. Donate a new or unopened item from Classroom Central’s donation list and you’ll receive a free gift. Drink, learn and do good — the ultimate trifecta. 5-9 p.m. Friday (Aug. 19), 301 N. Tryon Street. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
(3) Celebrate Triple C’s anniversary.
Triple C Brewing will celebrate four years of crafting beer in South End noon-9 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 20). There will be food trucks, live music from Yarn and Mojo Ruckus and the brewery will release a new IPA, “Not Just N.E. IPA.”
(4) Do a #CLTFreeWorkout.
You’ve got to work all that beer off somehow, right? Find one of the six #CLTFreeWorkouts scattered around town and do a bodyweight exercise that will take you about 20-25 minutes. The workouts were designed by an OrthoCarolina physician and marked on the sidewalks by #thesavageway using their “Clean Graffiti” process. You can find the workouts in Dilworth, West Charlotte, Sedgefield, NoDa, Cherry and Wilmore.
(5) Have some Pride.
Head to North Tryon Street uptown for the Charlotte Pride Parade Sunday (Aug. 21) from 1-3 p.m. The parade caps off the Charlotte Pride Festival, which starts Saturday and aims to “enrich, empower, strengthen, and make visible the unique lives and experiences of LGBTQ people in Charlotte and the Carolinas.”
