We’re hiring 2 people! Come join the CharlotteFive team
Want to be a part of the most fun, creative, exciting, innovative, enthusiastic and Charlotte-obsessed team in town? (OK, so we’re not exactly humble about how awesome our jobs are, but come work with us and you’ll see why.) CharlotteFive is hiring for TWO new positions.
We’re looking for a Visual Content Editor — as in, someone who can shoot way better videos than the one below — and has a real passion for visual storytelling.
And we’re hiring a Growth and Audience Manager, which sounds like a very serious title, but is actually a super fun job working with contests, giveaways, social media and strategy to help even more readers find CharlotteFive.
We’ve put the full job descriptions below and we really hope you’ll apply. Send a resume and cover letter to Sarah Crosland at scrosland@charlotteobserver.com or apply through CareerBuilder for the Visual Content Editor here and for the Growth and Audience Manager here.
Visual Content Editor
The Role: We’re looking for a highly motivated photographer and videographer to build a photo and video program at the fast-growing Observer Content Studio (which includes CharlotteFive). You’ll join our creative team as a visual storyteller. From developing narrative videos to photographing and posting breaking lifestyle news, you’ll lead efforts across the Studio to create the best possible visual products. We want someone who thrives in a creative environment, but who understands the importance of deadlines and details. We’re looking for someone who has a start-up “hustle” mentality, but is ready to work for the most established and leading media company in town. Oh, and we want someone who likes to have fun — because this job is pretty awesome.
Responsibilities:
– Collaborate with the Observer Content Studio team to bring creative concepts to life through all aspects of photo and video production including scheduling, shooting, budgeting, producing, and, at times, writing accompanying content.
– Work closely with the on-staff editors as well as freelance writers, brainstorming and collaborating on visual content. Manage multiple freelance photographers and videographers.
– Develop unique video and photo-heavy stories, work from an outline or shot list, and shoot content on-demand. Be experimental with styles and techniques.
– Organize and edit all raw footage, preparing photos and videos for use across platforms.
– Use multiple social media platforms daily to promote all visual content.
– Archive and organize visual content, building an extensive, well-curated library of quality photography and video for use in Observer Content Studio products.
– Maintain and further develop the Studio’s brands. Set a tone for high quality standards consistent with the products.
Requirements:
– 5+ years as a photographer, 3+ years in video production.
– Fluent in the full Adobe Create Suite, Final Cut Pro and WordPress.
– A portfolio that demonstrates creativity and attention to detail.
– Excellent communication and organizational skills.
– Able to manage multiple projects with often changing demands.
– Great team player, but also a natural self-starter.
– Confident and not afraid to contribute innovative ideas.
– Able to prioritize in order to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
– Willing to work some nights and weekends as needed.
– Knowledge of Charlotte and its culture is a plus.
Think this sounds like you? We hope you’ll apply. This is a full-time position and includes all the good stuff like a competitive salary, commission program, and comprehensive benefits package. Plus, not only would you be coming to work at the city’s leading media company, but you’d be doing it in our modern and brand-spanking-new offices at 550 South Caldwell St.
Growth and Audience Manager
The Role: We’re looking for an innovator and a risk taker to take the lead in growing and developing our audience. You’ll be working on increasing audience, engagement, and views —and, of course, you should be well versed in social media. This role is for the motivated person who loves a job that always keeps them thinking. You’ll have to understand the importance of planning in order to target the right audience at the right time with the right content — but also know that this is a fast-changing environment and be ready to adapt quickly. You’ll need to be both an analytical problem solver and a creative leader. We’re looking for someone who has a start-up “hustle” mentality, but is ready to work for the most established and leading media company in town.
Responsibilities:
– Develop and execute strategies to convert occasional visitors to dedicated to subscribers using contests, giveaways, social media, Google adwords, SEO tools, etc.
– Lead social media strategy, generating and posting compelling, on-brand content across social media platforms and Observer Content Studio verticals (like CharlotteFive).
– Collaborate with the Observer Content Studio team to develop new content that aids in the development of and engagement with target audiences.
– Manage and curate the brand’s reputation through frequent social media interactions, being responsive and engaging.
– Coordinate and create social media interaction during live events.
– Experiment frequently to evaluate new and innovative initiatives for increasing audience size and promoting the products.
– Consistently help develop new strategies and new product features on the newsletters and sites in order to drive audience growth and development.
– Work with the sales team on any audience requirements and ensure that the editorial team is aware of these goals.
– Work with all Observer products in order to cross promote individual products.
Requirements:
– 3+ years experience in social media strategy and execution.
– Strong SEO experience.
– Experience using web analytics tools and tagging/tracking techniques.
– Able to analyze raw data, draw conclusions, and develop actionable recommendations.
– Able to manage multiple projects with frequently changing demands.
– Excellent communication and organizational skills.
– Great team player, but also a natural self-starter.
– A problem solver who is ready to be innovative in a fast-moving industry.
– Willing to work some nights and weekends as needed.
– Knowledge of Charlotte and its culture is a plus.
