#C5Checklist: 5 things you should do this week - Oct. 3-9

Happy first week of October, Charlotte. Here’s how you should be spending it.

(1) Head to the burbs.

We all know Charlotte’s got a lot to offer, but so do some of the surrounding towns. Grab a craft beer in downtown Matthews or Pineville, head across the river and visit Belmont and Cramerton, or head up to Davidson and grab dinner at Kindred and a drink at Summit Coffee. Sometimes it’s nice to get out of town, even if it’s just for an evening.

(2) Have a Creative Morning.

RSVPs for the next CreativeMornings/Charlotte event open at 9 a.m. this morning — and they’ll go fast. Get yours and show up to Warehouse 242 Friday morning to hear from N.C. Sen. Jeff Jackson and restauranteur Cassie Parsons. What do they have in common? “Laws are like sausages, it is better not to see them being made.”

(3) Go to a NASCAR race.

NASCAR comes back home to Charlotte for the Bank of America 500 race Saturday, Oct. 8, at Charlotte Motor Speedway. It’s a night race, which is awesome, and it’s also part of the Chase for the Cup, which is NASCAR’s version of the playoffs. Not a racing fan? Consider it a cultural event. The people watching will not disappoint.

(4) Visit the Bartender of Seville.

Even if you’re not a fan of opera you might be a fan of these opera-inspired cocktails created by Bob Peters at The Punch Room. Peters will be making a special drink to go with each Opera Carolina performance. Up first: “The Barber of Seville,” which opens Oct. 22. But the cocktail — “The Key” (Cynar, Italian Sweet Vermouth, and prosecco, and garnished with a fig — is available now.

(5) Vote in the CharlotteFive Awards!

ICYMI, last week we launched our first CharlotteFive Awards contest and we want to hear from you. Vote in the first category — Breweries — now, and then stay tuned as we open up ballots for 11 other categories in the coming weeks (the next category will come out Wednesday). This is your chance to tell us what you love most about Charlotte, so be sure to vote!
