#C5Checklist: 5 things you should do this week – Oct. 24-28
(1) Whip something up in the kitchen.
Sign up for a BYOB cooking class with Chef Alyssa and learn new tricks. One of this week’s classes, Healthy Weeknight Meals Cooking Class with Chef Alyssa, is already sold out, but there are more coming up, like Wildgame Workshop and Thanksgiving Sides.
You could also give Kindred’s famous milk bread a shot: The recipe calls for simple ingredients like honey, eggs and milk powder. Or just give up and drive to Davidson for milk bread — and dinner.
(2) Do a free activity.
In case you thought billboards couldn’t double as clothing, Adams Outdoor Advertising is reshaping perspectives. They organized a free exhibit at Mint Museum uptown called “Outdoor Is In,” a pop-up fashion showcase of 19 dresses made of recycled vinyl billboards. This was created to celebrate the Mint’s “Year of the Woman”and is open through Oct. 30. Find exhibition details here. Mint Museum Uptown. 500 S. Tryon St.
Your other free art option: The Uptown Art Crawl (rescheduled from the week of protests) goes from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 27 and spans these arts venues: Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, Mint Museum Uptown, New Gallery of Modern Art, Sozo Gallery, McColl Center for Art + Innovation, UNCC Center City, Goodyear Arts and Levine Museum of the New South. Complete with a free trolley ride, along with complimentary B-cycle access and bike valets if you ride your own bike.
(3) Try a workout at one of the places listed in our C5 awards.
We’re voting on fitness options, after all. If you’re looking for something free, F3 workouts are open to all men and held outside. Know the three Fs before you go: Fitness, Fellowship and Faith. Check out locations here.
Similarly, FiA (Females in Action) is a peer-led, friendship-building group of women who work out together for free. Workouts take place outside and locations can be found here.
Looking for something different? See our list of CrossFit, yoga, aerial and group fitness offerings. And don’t forget to vote.
(4) Go to a party.
Growl-O-Ween Dilworth is Oct. 26 and Growl-O-Ween South End is Oct. 27 at Bulldog Beer & Wine. This annual pet costume party features a free contest for the pets, with prizes for best small dog, best large dog, scariest, spiciest and homemade costumes. The judging begins at 8 p.m. both nights. See details here.
Into themed parties? The Casino Night + Halloween Celebration at The Duke Mansion is 8 p.m. Oct. 28. There will be food and beverages rolling out from Chef Harrison Booth, music by the Bad Daddies and casino cocktail attire involved. Proceeds support The Duke Mansion, 400 Hermitage Road. Find tickets here.
Don’t miss these other chances to celebrate Halloween this weekend, either.
(5) Turn on your networking game.
For starters, join the 2016 STANDOUT honorees and committee of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at 8.2.0 bar/restaurant at the AvidXchange Music Factory for their STANDOUT Networking Social. Grab some light bites and bid in the silent auction benefitting the CFF. 6-9 p.m. Oct. 25. 820 Hamilton St.
You can also engage in Business Talks with Sodoma Law to network and hear from a panel of Sodoma attorneys on the topics of employment contracts and handbooks, contract creation and review, organization formation tips, mergers and acquisitions, and exit strategies. 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 25 at alt.biz coworking, 7504 E.Independence Blvd., Ste 103.
Get out there. You never know who you’ll meet, or what one conversation can lead to.
