Jeff Jackson talks HB2, this unusual election season, and ... Rob Lowe?
The 2016 election is just days away. Soon we’ll elect a president, governor, U.S. senator, state senators and representatives and more — and, most importantly, soon the political ads will stop.
With all of that in mind, we decided to invite N.C. Sen. Jeff Jackson, 34, into the C5 Podcast Closet this week to have a serious conversation about the upcoming election and politics in North Carolina.
OK, it was a mostly serious conversation. We had to have a little fun — this is the CharlotteFive Podcast after all.
Jackson is running for reelection in the 37th N.C. Senate District. He serves in the Army National Guard and was a prosecutor in Gaston County before taking political office. After former Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon resigned and Dan Clodfelter replaced him, Jackson was selected to take his spot in the N.C. Senate.
For this interview, I asked the “hardball” questions and Sarah asked the “softball” questions, meaning the conversation ranged from House Bill 2, to Instagram filters, to gerrymandering, to which TV show best portrays what it’s like to work in politics. (No, it’s not “House of Cards.”)We also talked to him about what it’s like to be an M-word in the state legislature.
