President-Elect Trump’s words for Charlotte
Like it or not, New York billionaire Donald Trump is taking over the Oval Office Jan. 20, 2017. And he made numerous trips to Charlotte to rally the support he needed to get there during this election season. Here’s a look at what Charlotte heard him say:
On being a voice
“I am running to be your voice. I am glad that I make the powerful, and I mean very powerful, a little uncomfortable now and again, including some of the powerful people in my own party.”
On jobs
“At the center of my revitalization plan is the issue of trade. Massive, chronic trade deficits have emptied out our jobs. Just look at what has happened to Baltimore, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and right here in North Carolina. It’s the greatest jobs theft in the history of the world.”
“So many are not making it, but they’re going to make it if Trump becomes president.”
On the failure of the other party
“The Democrats have run our inner cities for 50, 60, 70 years or more. They’ve run the school boards, the city councils, the mayor’s offices, and the congressional seats. Their policies have failed, and they’ve failed miserably. They’ve trapped children in failing government schools, and opposed school choice at every turn.”
In response to Charlotte protests after the shooting of Keith Lamont Scott
“We need law and order, and without it, we have nothing. If I’m elected president, this chaos and violence will end, and it will end very, very quickly.”
When appealing to African-Americans
“If African-American voters give Donald Trump a chance … the result for them will be amazing.”
When discussing immigration
“Those who believe in oppressing women, gays, Hispanics, African-Americans and people of different faiths are not welcome to join our country.”
On promises
“Here is the promise I make to you: whether you vote for me or not, I will be your greatest champion. I have no special interest, I take no orders from donors or lobbyists – I work for you, and only you.”
And: “I will not let you down, watch.”
