The dish on dining: Kathleen Purvis talks food (and drink)
Kathleen Purvis has what many of you probably consider a dream job. She’s the food editor at the Charlotte Observer and spends her days thinking about — and eating, and drinking — all things food, from trends to recipes, and farmers markets to restaurants.
We invited her onto the CharlotteFive Podcast this week to talk about her job and the Charlotte food scene.
In a podcast that was right up food-lover Sarah Crosland’s alley, we talked with Purvis about:
– The latest in local food and restaurant news, like the new Kindred restaurant location and Chef Jamie Lynch being on “Top Chef.”
– How the Charlotte food scene has changed in recent years.
– The new book she’s writing on Southern craft distilleries, “Distilling the South.”
– Why she loves to take out-of-town visitors to farmers markets. (She’ll give you a whole new appreciation for farmers markets, I promise.
You can read Purvis’ work here and visit her website for more. You can also buy her “Pecan” and “Bourbon” cookbooks.
Other things discussed on this week’s CharlotteFive Podcast:
– The election, and the story Sarah wrote last week reaching out to Trump supporters.
– Two new places to grab drinks: Imperial and The Hop Shop.
– What you should be doing this weekend.
