6 tips for finding love from Charlotte matchmaker Laurie Berzack

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, The Good News Is podcast decided to bring on Charlotte matchmaker Laurie Berzack to talk about dating in Charlotte, how to meet people and why she doesn’t like texting.

Berzack, the founder of Carolinas Matchmaker, opened her first matchmaking business in 2006 and has been bringing Charlotte singles together ever since.

Trying to meet that special someone? Here are some tips from Berzack:

(1) Don’t look for instant gratification.

“People want everything now and relationships take time and they should be slower moving than they are.”

(2) Meditate.

“If you still your mind you can bring serenity in and you can attract somebody that lives in that type of manner. And what better way to live life than in that peaceful mode?”

(3) Get off your couch and meet people face to face.

“I’m a huge proponent of meetup.com. … If you go to an event that happens consistently … and you see the same people over and over again, love can bloom quietly and with time very naturally.”

(4) Just be prepared.

“Sometimes people get nervous going on dates and I say just have a little cheat sheet. Just have stories from your childhood perhaps that are funny that you can share. Just have some go-to topics.”

(5) Pay up, fellas.

“I think men should always pay for the first date. I think the man should be paying for the entire courtship. That’s my opinion.”

(6) Avoid texting.

“I’m not into the texting. I think it’s a terrible way of communicating anything.”

Listen to The Good News Is podcast on Soundcloud or iTunes to hear even more from Berzack about dating Charlotte. It was a fascinating conversation. I wish we could have talked twice as long.

Other topics covered on this week’s show:

– Putting the Panthers season into perspective. (Sarah’s just glad we won’t be talking about football anymore.)

– Cam Newton’s press conference that got people all riled up.

– Singles events on Valentine’s Day.

– Uptown pop-up shops happening this week.

– And what you should be doing this weekend, according to Sarah.
