Are video games the great unifier? Abari attracts a diverse crowd opening weekend
After a year of anticipation, Abari Game Bar is finally scoring points with maybe the most diverse crowd of gamers in Charlotte.
I went to the grand opening Saturday to find out who wanted to play classic arcade games while enjoying a full bar. A lot of people, as it turns out. Of the hour I normally spend during Scene/Seen stakeouts, 20 minutes was used queuing up to get into the at-capacity space.
It was like all of Charlotte had been waiting since the 90s for the doors to open. Still, I was happy to see a crowd so far south on North Davidson.
This is Abari Game Bar from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Abari Game Bar: 1721 North Davidson St.
Hours: 5 p.m.-2 a.m. Monday-Friday; noon-2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Open to all ages Saturdays and Sundays from noon-5 p.m.
