An inside look at Charlotte’s smartest start-up
Who: This time last year Haley Bohon was tossing around ideas with friends and family for a business called SkillPop. She thought there might be a market for creating pop-up classes on subjects like marketing, calligraphy and public speaking. Turns out, she was right. Nine months after launching, SkillPop offers dozens of classes to hundreds of people each month. Its most popular classes sell out in minutes.

What: On this week’s The Good News Is… podcast we chatted with Bohon about what it takes to be a start-up entrepreneur in Charlotte, SkillPop’s coolest classes, what she’s planning next, and — unexpectedly — tacos.
That’s what she said: “It’s a step by step, rather than a leap by leap.” – Bohon on launching her own business.
The Good News Is — presented by The Charlotte Observer and powered by OrthoCarolina — is a weekly podcast with a similar mission to what we do here at C5: To get you CharlotteSmart, fast with fun, interesting and useful news about the city. It’s hosted by Corey Inscoe and Sarah Crosland.
