How to do Dad’s Day right in Charlotte

Forget your usual neckties and cheesy gifts. Seriously, put down that “World’s Greatest Dad” coffee mug right now. This Father’s Day you and Dad can enjoy some time together around Charlotte. In fact, with a list that includes donuts and beer, you’ll be wishing you could celebrate him every weekend.

For the ball game and brats loving dad…

Head to this weekend’s Charlotte Knights’ games. You can cheer on the home team on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as Sunday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown. Grab a hotdog and local beer, and settle in to watch the Knights take on the Indianapolis Indians—and catch one of the best skyline views in town. For some extra dad time, go on Friday night when you can enjoy post game fireworks with that view.

For the craft beer drinking dad…

Whether he’s a lover of lagers or just enjoys sipping the occasional stout, you’re in luck this weekend. The US National Whitewater Center is throwing its Brew Stash Bash, which features an afternoon of craft beer tasting on Saturday. Of course, it’s not all about the ales. From rafting and ziplining to simply enjoying live music throughout the afternoon and evening, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the day together at the Center.

For the bacon-eating and brunching dad…

Make your reservations. Some of Charlotte’s top brunch spots are offering tasty bites for dads. At Nan & Byron’s you’ll find a Father’s Day Brunch Buffet ($23 per person) that includes decadent dishes like fried chicken, biscuits and pancakes. Or head to Queen City Q where dads eat free on Sunday and the menu includes father favorites like pork ribs and brisket. For the ultimate holiday treat, snag a seat at Tupelo Honey Café where dad can get a free side of bacon with any meal all day long.

For the cool and cultured dad…

The Charlotte Symphony’s annual Summer Pops series is perfect for your “Pop” this Sunday evening. Pack a picnic of his favorite foods—or enjoy the on-site food truck fare—and relax as you soak in the sounds of music under the stars. This Sunday’s performance features the familiar tunes of John Williams’ movie scores like “Jurassic Park” and “Indiana Jones.”

For the donut-dining dad…

The Billy Graham Library is hosting dads of all ages for a morning of free donuts and coffee from 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m. tomorrow. In addition to the decadent treats, you can check out the free Journey of Faith tour documenting the life of the famed evangelist and native Charlottean. Plus, the library will be offering a special gift to dads during the event.
