A ruse the whole family was in on: Jordan & Spencer

had taken mental notes over the years and knew Jordan wanted a few things in place on the day I would propose:

She wanted to be surprised. She wanted someone in place to snap pictures of the special occasion. She wanted friends and family there.

And she wanted her nails done.

Jordan and I both love the beach, so I knew that was where I wanted to propose. Three weeks before a beach vacation, I drove to her hometown of Mint Hill to meet with her parents and ask for their only daughter’s hand in marriage.

My family was taking a vacation to Oak Island for the week of July 4th, and Jordan’s family was vacationing at Ocean Isle Beach the following week. We planned to stay with my family for a few days and then hers. On July 4th, I told Jordan we were going to drive to meet her family for dinner.

Once we were dressed, though, my sisters asked Jordan and me to walk down to the beach and take pictures while everyone else finished getting ready. Meanwhile, Jordan’s family arrived at our house.

With Jordan’s back to the beach access, I proposed. After I put the ring on her finger, Jordan turned around and saw our families walking toward us.

She was completely surprised. Then we all walked back to the beach house for a huge family-style cookout. —As told by Spencer

Jordan and Spencer will be married Oct. 22, 2016.
