Nov. 13 headlines: Get ready, Lake Norman commuters: I-77 toll lane construction begins Monday

Cornelius seems like a nice town. Huntersville and Davidson, too. I have no desire to move to any of those places, though, because the commute seems like the absolute worst.

And get ready: It might get somehow even worse. Construction on the super-controversial I-77 toll lanes begins Monday. Here’s what that means:

– Work will start south of exit 23 and go to just north of exit 28.

– The first phase of work will be in the median, “with minimal disruption to commuters.” Oh, OK. Sure.

– Occassional lane shifts and lane closures will only occur overnight.

All this comes as lawmakers keep trying to keep the toll lanes from happening. Two state senators plan to ask Gov Pat if he could cancel the project, pretty please with a cherry on top?

In other headlines …

– A woman is basically claiming squatter’s rights in a $800K home in Piper Glen.

– Theoden Janes got a chance to talk to the organizer of Thunder Road Marathon and asked him ridiculous questions like: “Why on earth would someone want to run that distance?”

– The NFL fined Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman $5,000 for wearing red-white-and-blue cleats with the words “proud, brave” on them. Seriously.

– The most popular baby boy name in North Carolina is William. The most popular baby girl name in the state is Ava. Be different — don’t name your kid William or Ava.
