Who took home the largest cash prize in TV history from NC’s MrBeast’s reality show?
Just how far would you be willing to go for a chance at $5 million?
That was the ultimate choice for 1,000 people from around the country competing in a new record-breaking competition series created by arguably North Carolina’s most famous resident: the 26-year-old YouTube sensation.
Week after week, Jimmy Donaldson’s “Beast Games” put a dwindling group of contestants working with and against each other in intense physical, mental, and social challenges — along with a few bribes along the way tempting contestants to walk away — for the largest crash prize in entertainment history.
After a monster truck pull through Beast City, a game of hide-and-seek on an island and other challenges, a winner has been crowned.
Spoiler alert: In a dramatic twist, the winner left with an even bigger cash prize than expected. If you missed the finale, here’s a recap of what happened in the final competition.
From 1,000 to 6: Who won MrBeast’s Beast Games show?
Of the 1,000 players who started out in the competition, only six faced off in the finale of Beast Games:
Player 937 (Emma)
Player 831 (Jeff)
Player 830 (Twana)
Player 947 (Yessi)
Player 974 (Gage)
Player 424 (Court)
Though the grand prize was originally set at $5 million dollars, MrBeast gave the six finalists the chance to call a coin toss for an extra $5 million or face an elimination.
Gage stepped up to take the risk and the odds ended up in his favor. The prize pool was doubled to $10 million before kicking off the final round of challenges in the same space where the Beast Games began.
After a free-throw challenge to eliminate two of their opponents, Court and Emma were the first of the finalists beat out of the competition.
Setting the stakes higher to move forward, the remaining four had to put their memory skills to the test in a challenge to cross a patterned floorboard by memory without one misstep to pick who was eliminated — or get sent home. But despite a suggestion from Jeff to alter her first path, a confident Yessi rejected his help and rid herself the chance to win it all.
And then there were three — and their fates were left in the hands of other players they beat out.
‘Three unique competitors in three unique paths’
Ahead of the second-to-last challenge, it was revealed that the top 50 contestants were secretly surveyed on which of the three finalists they would want eliminated.
But as an out, Jeff, Twana and Gage were offered $1 million to self-eliminate if they were voted out.
Though they all thought Twana was the least likely to be voted out, the former contestants actually did vote her out. But that wasn’t known until after Gage took MrBeast’s bribe and sent himself home.
‘It all comes down to this next game’
With Jeff and Twana, who actually started out Beast Games next to each other, as the last two dancing, even MrBeast said he was nervous for their final showdown.
So after all of the creative and chaotic challenges the show brought, what was their last shot at becoming millionaires? One that came down to strategy — or maybe just plain luck.
On a table of 10 briefcases, only one had a check for $10 million and they had to take turns guessing where their opponent placed it.
But it didn’t take long for a winner to be declared, after Jeff guessed correctly during the first round.
A record-breaking season
Walking away with the largest prize in entertainment history, Jeff said he plans to use his $10 million grand prize for finding a cure for his son’s rare brain disease: creatine transport deficiency.
“His brain just doesn’t get the energy it needs to function and develop so he’s seven years old but cognitively, he’s about one and a half,” Jeff explained. “It was discovered 25 years ago and there’s still no therapies and no cures.”
In the end, everyone walked away with something. Twana was send home with an extra $100,000 to her total of $190,000. Every single player that competed was also given $2,000 for playing.
According to MrBeast, over $20 million in prizes was given away and the show broke 50 world records.
