NC couple to compete in new Netflix game show premiering soon
Update: The Linwells won big! Check out their huge prize haul, which includes a yearlong adventure around the world.
A Charlotte couple is stepping into Netflix’s spotlight for a chance to win a quarter of a million dollars.
Joey Hewell and Scott Lindsley will be competing in the new game show with “13 life-changing prizes, eight teams and one crucial question: ‘What’s in the Box?’”
“Pairs of contestants will compete to open as many boxes as they can. To get the chance to open a box, they must outwit their competitors in rounds of trivia to unveil what lies within,” according to Netflix Tudum, a fan site named after Netflix’s famous sound.
“But in this game of power and possession, keeping the prize is the real challenge. With twists galore and serious winnings on the line, they must work together and against each other to come out on top. At the end of the season, the team with the most prizes will play for the Super Box, a chance to earn a prize worth over $250,000.”
Powerful pairs from across the country will be going head-to-head in the game show, including a mother and son, former NFL cheerleaders and identical twins. The Charlotte duo is the only team from the Tar Heel state.
“Married for over 20 years, Joey and Scott have spent only two weeks apart cumulatively throughout their whole relationship. The two live in North Carolina with their dog, Charlotte Dorothy Peppercorn,” their team bio states.
“Both work in renovation and construction, with Joey focusing on design and Scott as the real estate broker, and the two have collaborated on many projects.”
Locally, the pair are also notably known as the co-founders of the NoDa Farmers Market, which is no longer in operation, and creators of NoDa Company Store and NoDa Company Canteen — a beloved concept they even took internationally before selling the business.
When asked what they hope is in the box on the new game show? They said: “We both love travel and food. Anywhere, any place, any time, so all the travel is just amazing,” according to Tudum.
“We are best friends, business partners, we do everything together all the time,” Joey told the publication. “Our strength is working together. We are used to working closely together, listening to each other, and working to find solutions.”
All six episodes of Season 1, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, will premiere Wednesday, Dec. 17.
