Famous actor spotted in a Lake Norman downtown. Why was he here?

The man in the parking lot outside his Bace Barbershop in downtown Mooresville was so famous that Caleb Cranfield said he and his crew “stopped cutting hair and just stared” on Monday.

They watched mesmerized as actor John Stamos stepped from a truck and into a building to film a scene for the second season of the hit Netflix series, “The Hunting Wives.”

Stamos is famous for his TV roles including Uncle Jesse in “Full House” and Dr. Tony Gates in “ER,” and films such as the 1986 teen action flick “Never Too Young to Die,” in which he played Lance Stargrove. He was George in the 2016 “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.”

“It was fun to see,” Cranfield told The Charlotte Observer on Tuesday.

And “amazing,” he said, to watch about 60 people associated with the production pack the lot and building on Broad Street from 7 a.m. until about 8 p.m. “It was really cool, just to see all the workers,” he said.

For a month-and-a-half, part of the parking lot was crammed with film worker trucks and equipment — just for this single day of shooting, Cranfield said.

The head of the union workers at the site was gracious in giving him a tour of the set, including a downstairs “morgue,” and a street-level campaign office for fictional Texas gubernatorial candidate Jed Banks.

The sets were so life like, Cranfield said, detailed “to a T.”

The Observer peeked through the windows of the building and saw stacks of Jed Banks campaign bumper stickers and flyers on desks.

Other filming in Mooresville

Filming for “The Hunting Wives” continues at a lake house elsewhere on Lake Norman, the workers said. They likely were referring to Azalea Retreat in Sherrills Ford, which the Observer previously reported was a location for Maple Brook in the series.

The workers said they expect to return to Mooresville at some point, but they didn’t know when and where.

Downtown Mooresville also was a popular site for filming Cinemax’s “Banshee” in 2012. Showtime’s “Homeland” also returned to Mooresville for a few shots that year.
