Things to do

#FollowFriday: 4 social media accounts to help you keep cool this summer

I spend all winter figuring out ways to get in the sun and then summer arrives — with a heatwave — and I’m over here like, “Can we do indoor activities please?”

For fun (with moderate to little sun), follow these three social media accounts to help you keep cool during the days that we reach 100 degrees before lunch time.

(1) King of Pops, @KingofPopsCLT

It. Is. Hot. I’m here at Uptown Amphitheater to help! If you’re here stop by for a visit and an ice cold pop. Do it!!! ☀️❤️☀️

These days, I will stalk King of Pops for their Chocolate Sea Salt concoction.

What I like most about them is that they are always a short distance from me, which is great considering I move at a snail’s pace with this heat. Thankfully, their Twitter keeps you informed as to where they are hiding out so you don’t have to think much when you need a popsicle infusion.

(2) The Mint Museum, @TheMintMuseum

Two words: Air conditioned. However, that’s definitely not the only reason it made this list.

The Mint has a bunch of summer events that expand your creative mind.

For instance: Tonight it is hosting a Mint To Move Cultural Dance Night: An Afro-Cuban and Latin-American evening of dance complete with a DJ and live musicians.

There are many more events where that came from so be sure to follow them ASAP.

(3) Active Charlotte Alliance, @activecharlotte

I know what you are thinking: This isn’t necessarily an account that makes you think of “cooling down,” but Active Charlotte Alliance does have some awesome events to keep you physically feeling your best.

Its 7 Days of Running campaign starts June 22 and runs (no pun intended) through June 28. What is your reward for running in the heat? A nice cold beer at one of the hosting spots afterward.

Follow for more information. Cheers!

(4) The Charlotte Symphony, @CLTsymphony

Music just sounds better when it is live and outdoors, doesn’t it?

Even though Summer Pops is outdoors, the sun will likely be somewhat tame by the time the show starts.

The Charlotte Symphony’s Summer Pops series only has three nights left, so do yourself a favor and plan on hitting up “A Night at the Movies” June 21 or “Hot Spanish Nights” June 28.

Everyone is raving about it, and you can bring food and your beverage of choice. It’s obvious why this series is a fan-favorite.
