How to lose the rainy day blues and feel good about yourself

jsimmons@charlotteobserver.com

Even for a person often described as “indoorsy,” the Seattle-like conditions enveloping Charlotte is wearing thin. However, Charlotte’s self-professed weather geek and WCNC meteorologist, Brad Panovich, predicts mostly sunny skies with a high of 75 degrees on Saturday.

After schlepping around inside all week watching Game of Thrones and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (What? Just me?), even this indoor enthusiast is looking forward to some Vitamin D.

Fortunately, there are two events that will allow you to not only get out and enjoy the weather but to also support two great causes. Which in turn will make you feel better about yourself and forget all about The Tonight Dough stain you put on your couch (Again, just me?).

Hands on Charlotte Day

Now in its 23rd year, Hands on Charlotte Day is the signature community service and fundraising campaign for Hands On Charlotte. Each year about 1,000 volunteers spread out across the Queen City to support dozens of different projects.

There are still volunteer opportunities available. They include: – Marie G. Davis Academy (landscaping and “Hands On” crafts projects for kids) – Carolina Raptor Center (trail maintenance) – Crisis Assistance Ministry (clothes sorting) And, this is not an all work and no play event. The afterparty will be at Sugar Creek Brewing Company.
