C5 Checklist: 5 things you should do this weekend | Aug. 24-27
Just because the solar eclipse is over doesn’t mean the fun is. The weekend kicks off with Charlotte Pride, God Save the Queen City and more. Let’s get offline.
(1) Celebrate the Seasonal Release of Wake Up Coffee Vanilla Porter
Thursday, 3-10 p.m. Free. Birdsong Brewing Co., 1016 N Davidson St.
(2) Settle in for Movies Under the Stars in Symphony Park: Fan Vote
Friday, 7 p.m. “doors open,” movie starts at sunset. Free. Symphony Park, 4400 Sharon Road.
Round up your crew and sprawl out under the summer sky for a free summer movie. SouthPark welcomes families and friends to celebrate the last days of summer and cool down with free outdoor entertainment at Movies Under the Stars, only Fridays in August. The lawn will fill for a film on the big screen. Guests can also purchase an assortment of summer snacks to enjoy during the movie.
(3) Celebrate National Women’s Equality Day at Blue Blaze
Saturday, 2-6 p.m. Free. Blue Blaze Brewing, 528 S. Turner Ave.
Celebrate National Women’s Equality Day by supporting over 20 of the QC’s female entrepreneurs at a market paired with live tunes. Get a head start on the positive vibes with a pre-market yoga class at 11:30 a.m. led by Gayle Taggart of Good Vibes Wellness. The main celebration starts at 2 p.m. and features a large vendor market, live music by Jade Moore + Heidi Dove & Fretless, as well as delicious cuisine from Two Chicks & A Truck.
(4) Jam to Jazz in Freedom Park: Freeport Jazz opening for Nick Colionn
Saturday, 6-9 p.m. Free. Freedom Park, 1900 East Blvd.
Bring out the blankets and chairs for a free summer jazz experience that will have you grooving long after the music ends. All you need to bring is a blanket or chairs (steer clear of tents and umbrellas) and a picnic if you’re feeling fancy. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase, so you should leave those at home too.
(5) Eat, Drink & Dance at the Puerto Rican Fest
Sunday, noon-8 p.m. $5. Symphony Park, 4400 Sharon Road.
Expand your horizons at the Puerto Rican Day Festival in SouthPark. It will be a day of great music, spirited dancing, delicious food and fun games. Experience a day-long celebration of the Puerto Rican culture. No coolers or backpacks will be permitted.
