The C5 Checklist: 5 things you should do this weekend | Jan. 13-15
Since we won’t be hibernating in an ice storm with beer and frozen pizza (or wine and a block of cheese) this weekend, it’s time to get out.
(1) Drink some drinks with friends.
I went to 204 North Kitchen & Cocktails for the first time for a tasting earlier this week and, for someone who isn’t really into cocktails, was pretty impressed by the blend of cranberry and bourbon I tasted. The libations menu creativity alone might be enough to get you in the door — a bunch of the cocktails are named for local neighborhoods. Curious to know what the Plaza Midwood or the Ballantyne tastes like? 204 N. Tryon St.
There’s also a beer-based event in our midst. Lenny Boy is hosting its inaugural $2 Beer & Bite Day on Jan. 15, from noon-7 p.m. The 16 oz. beer pints will be selling for $2 and A Bao Time (soon to be Bloom) will be whipping up a select $2 bite. 3000 S. Tryon St.
(2) Support a small business in Charlotte.
That could be as easy as getting groomed. Guys can shop Buckskin & Mane online for items like Sunflower Seed Hydrating Shave Cream and Camo Beard Oil. The local company was founded in 2015 and its products are handcrafted with aloe vera juice as a base. Women can head into The Daily Details, a beauty boutique uptown, for a manicure, pedicure, blowout or wax (550 S. Tryon St., Suite 110.)
(3) Sit back and see a performance.
Women’s Showcase 2017 is taking place at Charlotte Ballet on Sunday, Jan. 15 from 7-10 p.m. (The doors open at 6:30 p.m.) This festival showcases the talent of local, regional and national female choreographers and dancers. Your ticket is also your key to the after party, where there will be free wine and beer, music and more performing. 701 N. Tryon St.
(4) Get up in the air.
Try a class at AIR Charlotte. There’s a $5 Community Class at noon Jan. 13, and another at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 15 at the Myers Park location. A Shape Magazine review pointed out that working out off the ground prompts you “to engage your core immediately.” 1043-C Providence Road.
Not feeling so graceful?
Go for a climb at Inner Peaks. The new South End location features auto-belays so you can climb solo or with friends. A day pass is $18. 2220 South Tryon St.
(5) Do something a Millennial would do.
First, find out how Millennial you actually are, with this quiz. Then, do something a successful Millennial would do in his or her spare time, like be spontaneous. Maybe hop on the Blue Line light rail and pick a random stop close to or in uptown. Explore that area. Who knows what you’ll find?
