So you think you can dance? Here are the places to do it
By Vanessa Infanzon
Kati Hanlon Mayo knows dance. She is an instructor at Charlotte Ballet, but she is best known for her career as a professional dancer with Charlotte Ballet.
Mayo‘s perspective on dance is inspiring. She said, “Dance is such a wonderful discipline that coordinates mind, body and music.”
Whether you have apprehension about jumping back in (remember those tap classes when you were six?) or starting at the beginner level, dance can be another way to exercise, meet new friends and develop a skill.
Mayo explained her own Golden Rule for dance: “I tell all students to give it three classes. The experienced body will start to remember and the beginner will feel the walls come down and understand the expectations of the class. Either way, most come in by the third class with an ‘I got this’ attitude.”
Look at these options available for adult dance classes in Charlotte:
Ballet –Monday-Thursday 10-11:15 a.m. (beginner to intermediate) $16
Happy Hour Hip Hop – Friday 6:30 p.m., Some experience recommended $5
Jazz –Tuesday 7:30 p.m. (beginners) $16
Discounts for multiple classes are offered by most dance studios. Check out specific websites for more information.
