A new farmers market is popping up in Charlotte’s University City this fall
Shoppers will find fresh and nutritious foods — and can support farmers and entrepreneurs across North Carolina at the same time — when the University City Farmers Market makes its debut Oct. 3 around the lake at The Shoppes at University Place.
The market will be open every Saturday during October from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.. Shoppers can expect seasonal fruits and vegetables, pasture-raised eggs and meats, artisanal food options and natural beauty-care products from Charlotte’s best local farmers, artisanal food makers and different pop-up chefs.
The market will also have live music, DJs and chef demonstrations by chef Lisa Brooks and food blogger Erique Berry on how to create quick and healthy meals using the items offered.
“Community members have made it clear to us that they’d like to see more programs, and specifically a farmers market in University City.” Darlene Heater, Executive Director of University City Partners, told CharlotteFive. “We are excited to not only offer locally sourced fresh food for everyone, but also cooking demonstrations and live musical entertainment. It will be a first-class experience.”
If the farmers market sees success, organizers hope to expand its dates next year. This year, due to COVID-19, dogs won’t be permitted to increase social distancing space. Masks are required for all visitors, vendors and staff, and the market will be monitoring its capacity to ensure the safety and health for all.
