Rival NC HBCU football teams to meet at Duke’s Mayo Classic in Charlotte. What to know

Charlotte will ring in the 2022 college football season with the latest edition of an iconic North Carolina rivalry in the Duke’s Mayo Classic.

North Carolina Central and North Carolina A&T will face off at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday night, marking the 100th anniversary of the Aggie-Eagle Classic. In addition to the game, there will be a number of activities for fans and Charlotte residents to enjoy ahead of kickoff.

And for folks who can’t make it to the stadium, there are TV and streaming options available.

What is the Duke’s Mayo Classic?

The Duke’s Mayo Classic is a college football game held annually on the first week of the season at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

The 2022 edition is sponsored by Duke’s Mayo as well as the Charlotte Sports Foundation, 100 Black Men of Greater Charlotte and more.

In addition to the game, the festivities will include a college and career fair, a step show, a race, an exhibit on the history of the Aggie-Eagle rivalry and a “FanFest.”

Duke’s Mayo Classic 2022 match-up

The centennial edition of the Aggie-Eagle Classic will be the match-up for the 2022 Duke’s Mayo Classic.

North Carolina A&T will be looking to extend a four-game winning streak in the rivalry after earning bragging rights last year with a 37-14 win over North Carolina Central.

The two teams are slated to face off again in the Duke’s Mayo Classic in 2027.

When is the Duke’s Mayo Classic?

The 2022 Duke’s Mayo Classic is set for Saturday, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the Duke’s Mayo Classic are on sale via Ticketmaster and start at $48.

Duke’s Mayo Classic parking

If you’re driving to the game, organizers recommend reserving a parking spot ahead of time at the Seven20 Garage or through the SpotHero app.

A “limited number of spaces allocated for accessible parking” will be available in the Mint Street Parking Facility “on a first-come, first-served basis for vehicles displaying a handicap placard,” the Charlotte Sports Foundation says.

A wheelchair-accessible drop-off point will also be available in the westbound lane of “Morehead Street as it approaches Mint Street.”

Organizers encourage fans to use public transportation — including the city’s buses, streetcars and light rail — to get to and from the game and related events.

How to watch, stream the Duke’s Mayo Classic in Charlotte

If you can’t make it to the game in-person, you can stream it or watch it on television.

This year’s game will air live on ESPN3, according to the Charlotte Sports Foundation, and air again “later that night” on ESPNU.
