‘Streetwhere’ festival will highlight Black male fashion designers in Charlotte
Fresh2Death: STREETWHERE — a festival that grew from a museum exhibit — will be held at Charlotte’s Camp North End from Sept. 10-11 with fashion, art, culture, food, music, streetwear and retail at the historic Ford Building.
Davita Galloway and Dion Galloway, the siblings behind DUPP&SWAT, curated the successful Fresh2Death exhibit at the Mint Museum this year and had over 1,500 attendees.
Now, the brother-and-sister team are planning on showcasing how Charlotteans do streetwear, highlighting how each designer’s aesthetic and brand can provide a different experience.
Davita said streetwear is a segment of the fashion industry that has been and remains to be heavily influential on pop culture, where its edge and luxe is diverse in its implementation.
Dion said Black male designers were chosen for the festival to make a statement because they are the face of hip-hop culture and fashion innovation.
“We are curating the ‘where’ in which their pop-ups will be experienced,” Davita said. “For example, audiences will interact and engage with a pop-up with a cookout theme, another with an art gallery theme and so on. The ‘where’ dictates the various environments/locations.”
Participating brands include:
Quantanamobay by Jaquan Thompson
Westcott Studio by Shane Farrow
NiVet Clothing by Tevin Baskerville
LVC Drip Gods by Antoine Scott + Demetrius Ross
Nu-Mars Creations by Isaiah Milton
F4mily Matters by Samir Hamid
Daniel Baptiste by Daniel Baptiste
