Uptown block party returns to kick off Wednesday Night Live

You don’t have to wait for Thirsty Thursday for a weekend kickoff in uptown Charlotte these days, thanks to Levine Center for the Arts launching its second season of Wednesday Night Live.

The free weekly arts-centric event will highlight exhibits, live musical performances and more. Wednesday, Sept. 21, will be a kickoff block party — and it’s also part of the Charlotte International Arts Festival.

SEPT. 21 SCHEDULE:

  • 4:45-5:30 p.m.: Live Art Demonstration with Ricky Singh at the Gantt Plaza
  • 5:30-6:15 p.m.: Dances of India at the Levine Avenue Stage
  • 6:15-6:35 p.m.: Fastest Steed Drummers Performance on the plaza in front of Mint Museum Uptown
  • 6:35-6:55 p.m.: Jessica Macks Performance on the plaza in front of Mint Museum Uptown
  • 7-7:45 p.m.: The Barefoot Movement Performance at the Levine Ave Stage
  • 7:45-8:30 p.m.: HipShack performance at the Bechtler Plaza
  • 8:30-9:30 p.m.: Coddle Creek performance at the Levine Ave Stage

What is Wednesday Night Live?

Wednesday Night Live includes free admission from 5 to 9 p.m. every Wednesday to uptown Charlotte’s five arts institutions that are part of the Levine Center for the Arts. On Wednesdays starting Oct. 12, special programming will be added, including Brazilian dance performances, spoken-word art and film screenings.

AVAILABLE PARKING:

  • Parking garages, surface lots and metered spaces near Levine Center for the Arts.
  • $5 parking after 5 p.m. at the Levine Center for the Arts garage below the Duke Energy Center (550 S. Tryon St.) The visitor entrance to the garage is on Brooklyn Village Avenue, and you can park on levels P1 and P2.
  • The Green on South Tryon Street.
