Blueberries are back in bloom: Where to find farms to pick them near Charlotte and beyond

In North Carolina, blueberry season started in mid-June and will last until early August, bringing an extra tasty bite to your pancakes, muffins and cobblers.

There are several blueberry farms in North Carolina and South Carolina to choose from, some not far from Charlotte and some that are more of a day trip. And now is the perfect time to go pick some blueberries — remember, they’re not in season for very long, so don’t delay.

Here are blueberry farms in the Carolinas where you can pick the fruit:

Raceway Blueberry Farm

Location: 2275 Mariposa Rd, Stanley, NC 28164

Distance from Charlotte: 23 miles

Raceway Blueberry Farm is a flower farm, florist and u-pick blueberry farm in Stanley. Its blueberry harvest lasts from mid-June through mid-July.

Hours: Saturday-Tuesday, 8-11 a.m.

Rivers’ Blueberry Farm

Location: 1595 Colony Rd Rock Hill, SC 29730

Distance from Charlotte: 23 miles

This blueberry farm is a quick trip from Charlotte, making it one of the hidden gems to pick blueberries. Check out Rivers’ Facebook page for u-pick times, which can vary over the week.

Lineberger’s Maple Springs Farm

Location: 906 Dallas Stanley Hwy, Dallas, NC

Distance to Charlotte: 26 miles

Lineberger’s Farm has lots of ripe blueberries to pick right now. Its owners say this year’s crop has some of the biggest, sweetest-tasting blueberries they’ve grown in a couple of years.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sunday 12 p.m.-6 p.m.

Baucom Blueberries

Location: 9611 Morgan Mill Rd, Monroe, NC 28110

Distance from Charlotte: 30 miles

Baucom Blueberries provides customers with fresh, local, chemical-free blueberries in Monroe. You don’t need a reservation but remember to leave your debit or credit card behind, as this farm is cash-only.

Hours: Tuesday, 4-7 p.m.; Saturday, 9-12 p.m.

The Ivy Place Berry Farm

Location: 8525 Van Wyck Road- Farm Lancaster, South Carolina 29720

Distance from Charlotte: 38 miles

The Ivy Place is a family-owned farm that is open every day, offering crops such as strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and tomatoes. You even order online through the secure online store to reserve some of its tasty products.

Hours: Monday-Sunday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Bush-N-Vine Farm

Location: 1650 Filbert Hwy, York, SC 29745

Distance from Charlotte: 39 miles

Bush-N-Vine Farm offers a huge variety of pick-your-own crops such as pumpkins, blueberries, peaches and blackberries. The farm has fun activities like a hiking trail, picnic tables and events that can be found on its website.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

De’Farm on Blueberry Hill

Location: 1489 Hopewell Church Rd, Catawba, NC 28609

Distance from Charlotte: 41 miles

De’Farm is a small farm in Catawba. In this season, this farm has pick-your-own blueberries and a market wagon with fresh-picked blueberries, mushrooms, pints of blueberry jam, young blueberry plants and woody ornamentals for floral arrangements.

Hours: Monday-Thursday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Friday-Saturday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Campbell Blueberry Farm

Location: 2275 River Rd, Richfield, NC 28137

Distance from Charlotte: 55 miles

Campbell Blueberry Farm is open through the end of July each year. Containers are also provided for picking.

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Campbell’s Berry Farm

Location: 27 Tracy Bolick Ln, Hickory, NC 28601

Distance from Charlotte: 57 miles

Campbell’s Berry Farm has over 2700 blueberry bushes, offering U-pick or pre-picked berries. It’s open seven days a week through the first week of August. This farm also has a large variety of seasonal produce.

Hours: Monday-Saturday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sunday 1-6 p.m.

Brushy Mountain Berry Farm

Location: 7493 NC-16, Moravian Falls, NC 28654

Distance from Charlotte: 75 miles

This blueberry farm is known for its u-pick blueberries, seasonal produce and pasture-raised meats. This farm grows around seven different blueberries, each with its unique flavor.

Sprinkle’s Blueberry Farm

Location: 2201 Trinidad Ln, Winston-Salem, NC 27106

Distance to Charlotte: 83 miles

Sprinkle’s Blueberry Farm has added 800 new producing bushes for pickers this year. Located in Winston-Salem, this farm is on a rolling hill. “Blueberry Hill” is also the retirement project of Alfred and Wilma Sprinkle.

Hours: Saturday, 7 a.m.-3 p.m.; Thursday, 7 a.m.-12 p.m.

Millstone Creek Orchards

Location: 506 Parks Crossroads Church Rd, Ramseur, NC 27316

Distance from Charlotte: 104 miles

U-pick blueberries are in their final days of picking at Millstone Creek Orchards. Picking conditions are thin, but there are still berries on the bushes that are ready to be enjoyed.

Hours: Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday 1-5:30 p.m.

Blueberry Thrill Farm

Location: 6938 Eaglesfield Rd, Gibsonville, NC 27249

Distance from Charlotte: 111 miles

Blueberry Thrill Farm is a second-generation family-owned farm started in 1982. This farm offers a variety of pick-your-own and pre-picked fruit and flowers. Come relax in the country and enjoy gathering your own produce on the farm.

Hours: Wednesday, 7 a.m.-12 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m.-12 p.m.

Etowah Blueberry Patch

Location: 2427 Greenville Hwy, Brevard, NC 28712

Distance from Charlotte: 123 miles

During harvest season, June through August, it is recommended to call or check the farm’s Facebook page before going. It has 725 blueberry bushes in five varieties, and it’s u-pick only.

Cedar Grove Blueberry Farm

Location: 105 Persimmon Hill Ln, Cedar Grove, NC 27231

Distance from Charlotte: 134 miles

Cedar Grove is open seven days a week through the season. The farm’s owners encourage you to pick when temperatures are cooler, so head out in the morning or early evening (which is their favorite time).

Hours: Monday-Sunday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.

Farrells Creek Farm

Location: 1970 Marthas Chapel Rd, Apex, NC 27523

Distance from Charlotte: 150 miles

Farrells Creek Farm has an acre of u-pick blueberries in three different varieties with picking times from June to July. The farm also has blackberries and honey — I feel like there’s a great combination going on there.

Hours: Wednesday, Saturday, 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

Dr. Young’s Pond Berry Farm

Location: 10865 NC-210, Angier, NC 27501

Distance from Charlotte: 176 miles

Dr. Young’s Pond Berry Farm is a third-generation pick-your-own berries farm that has been selling since the late ‘80s. The Angier farm also has garden vegetables, Japanese persimmons and blueberry plants.

Hours: Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Creekside Farm Berries

Location: 300 Pine Tree Rd, Selma, NC 27576

Distance from Charlotte: 194 miles

Creekside Farm Berries offers a variety of berries and vegetables year-round, grown using organic practices. The 2023 U-pick Season just opened in late June, and you can also find its produce on Saturdays at the Clayton Farm & Community Market.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
