New season of HGTV home renovation competition filmed in popular NC beach town
North Carolina is once again in the national spotlight with another television show premiering this summer.
HGTV’s ”Battle on the Beach” is returning for another season set in Oak Island as Taniya Nayak, Ty Pennington and Alison Victoria face off in surfside home reno competition.
The three HGTV stars will serve as mentors leading their two-person teams of contestants as they select a property — sight unseen — and go through weekly challenges to renovate the “rundown homes into the most desired waterfront dwellings on the beach.”
“The goal at the end is that they have $100,000. They have six weeks and whoever’s house appraises at the highest value is the winner,” Nayak told CharlotteFive. “So what you watch is an intense, intense makeover renovation over— can you imagine–6 weeks to do an entire house, plumbing, electrical, tiles, flooring, siding, exterior, you name it.”
In each episode, teams will vie for a $3,000 bonus as they compete in some unexpected challenges,” HGTV said of the new season in a release. “Expert judges Bryan and Sarah Baeumler (“Renovation Island”) will award the team that adds the most value to their property a $50,000 cash prize and their mentor will once again reign supreme with bragging rights, but unexpected twists and a last-minute room challenge added before the finale will result in a nail-biting race to the finish.”
“We go into not knowing a single thing about our teams. We don’t know who they are, we don’t know where they’re from, we don’t know what their experience is. We don’t know anything, you know, so when we meet them it’s always surprising to see what they’re capable of,” Nayak explained. “I’m always amazed at how much they’re able to get done in such a short timeframe.”
Under Taniya, Ty and Alison’s guidance, here is a look at who will be competing on the show under the HGTV stars’ guidance:
Samantha and Sean Kilgore of Richmond, Michigan
Brandon Parker and Teresa Robinson of Norfolk, Virginia
Kristin and Chyenne Smith of Dallas, Texas
“We try to encourage our teams with what we know and so it’s always interesting to see, at the end of it, how different each house looks. It’s like wildly different,” Nayak said.
“It’s just a really feel good, fun show to watch … even if you’re not into DIY, but especially if you’re into DIY.”
You can tune into the premiere of “Battle of the Beach” on Monday, June 3 at 9 p.m.
