Brass Grasshopper

Location: 1325 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd., Matthews, NC 28105

The Brass Grasshopper, formerly known as Antique Alley, is the “oldest antique dealer mall in the Charlotte area,” and has been serving customers for the past 30 years. The store was owned by Bonnie Henley until 2022, when it was entrusted to Stephen and Katie Hardister.

Katie Hardister recalled stopping by an antique store with her two boys when they were little.

“While looking around, I spotted a large brass grasshopper figure. I instantly loved the look of it, with its beautiful aged brass patina and exaggerated whimsical legs with their leaf-like pattern,” she wrote on the store’s website.

Hardister purchased it and cherishes it to this day. This keepsake also served as inspiration when renaming Antique Alley.

“The brass grasshopper is a reminder of a simpler time and that it’s important to slow down, take a look around and be a tourist in your own town. You never know what you might find,” wrote Hardister.
