“Good Morning America” is returning to North Carolina this week for the second time in less than a month. This time, its crews are heading to Asheville to mark the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene and the devastation it wrought in Western North Carolina.
The ABC morning show, also known by its fans as “GMA,” will air live Thursday, Sept. 18, from the Biltmore Estate with correspondent Janai Norman on the ground in a private event with a closed set.
Along with highlighting recovery efforts in the area and how Asheville is working to bounce back after the storm that hit Sept. 27, 2024, the “Good Morning America” team will also highlight the area’s tourism and speak with a representative from Biltmore.
Biltmore on ‘GMA’
The historic property sustained some damage to the grounds in the storm last year, but Biltmore was able to reopen fairly quickly to celebrate the holidays. Now, it’s preparing for its first-ever outdoor nighttime experience, called Luminere, to debut next spring.
“As ‘Good Morning America’ celebrates the very best of all 50 states, it’s a true honor for Biltmore to help represent the beauty and spirit of North Carolina, especially in a state filled with so many incredible destinations and vibrant communities,” Biltmore senior PR manager Marissa Jamison told CharlotteFive.
“We’re proud to be a backdrop for this segment and to help showcase the people and places that make our state so special. As we approach the one-year mark since Helene, it’s especially meaningful to welcome members of our local community to the estate and shine a light on the strength, resilience, and ongoing renewal of our region.”
The Asheville Dream Center, which is an outreach arm for churches and businesses that coordinates volunteer efforts in the community, is also included in the TV crew’s plans.
The visit to Asheville is part of the show’s “50 States in 50 Weeks: America the Beautiful” series. Another crew from the show’s “My Kind of Town” series was recently in Belmont and Charlotte, showcasing the job training work that Holy Angels does with differently abled individuals.
