R&B star Peabo Bryson, who died Tuesday, was set to appear in Charlotte next week
Grammy-winning R&B singer Peabo Bryson, who died at age 75 on Tuesday after suffering a major stroke, was scheduled to perform next week at Middle C Jazz in uptown Charlotte
In an email sent to ticket holders Wednesday morning, Larry Farber — founder of the Charlotte jazz club — said the venue was “shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of our beloved Peabo Bryson.”
“Our hearts are with his loved ones as we mourn his passing,” the email said.
Bryson, known for hits including “If Ever You’re in My Arms Again” and duets such as “A Whole New World” with Regina Belle, was scheduled to perform four shows at the venue.
The club announced that the June 13-14 shows will instead feature vocalist Mandyl Evans performing the music of Teddy Pendergrass, alongside guest singer Robyn Springer. The performances will also include “a dedicated musical segment honoring Peabo Bryson and his music,” according to the venue.
Ticket holders can either keep their existing tickets for the replacement performances — with partial refunds automatically issued because of the lower ticket price — or request full refunds through Etix by June 8.
Middle C Jazz said ticket price adjustments are expected to range from $45 to $75.
