Charlotte African American Book Festival returning for a fourth year
The fourth annual Charlotte African American Book Festival is returning to the Queen City, bringing together authors, readers and members of the community for a celebration centered on literature, culture and education.
Hosted by Virginia Business Expo Corporation, the event aims to highlight the lasting contributions African Americans have made to literature while promoting literacy and a deeper appreciation for Black storytelling and culture.
This year’s festival will be on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the historic Second Ward Gymnasium in Charlotte. Organizers say the event was created as a platform to give African American authors, publishers and bookstores greater visibility while creating meaningful opportunities for engagement within the community.
The festival focuses on three key pillars: entertainment, education and impact. Through those efforts, attendees will have the chance to explore the many ways African American voices and experiences have shaped literature across generations. Organizers hope the event will inspire meaningful conversations about representation in books while encouraging a stronger connection between readers and creators.
Community members will have the opportunity to meet and support Black authors from a variety of backgrounds while connecting with fellow book lovers and industry professionals. Several featured authors are expected to attend, giving guests the chance to interact directly with writers, learn more about their work and celebrate the stories that continue to shape culture and inspire future generations.
Attendees can also participate in book signings, author discussions and networking opportunities designed to help build professional relationships within the literary and business communities. Guests will be able to purchase books at discounted prices, take photos with participating authors and enjoy live entertainment throughout the day. Door prizes will also be available during the event.
“The festival is an opportunity for individuals to connect with black professionals in the literary field. By celebrating African Americans' contributions to literary culture, we make a conscious decision to see past color, but experience their humanity, drive, intellect, passion, diversity and depth of their experiences.” Roy Wyatt, CEO and owner of the Virginia Business Expo Corporation, said about the event.
Designed as a family-friendly experience, the festival will offer something for readers of all ages, from children discovering new stories to adults exploring a wide range of literary works. Featured genres will include fiction, non-fiction, memoirs, poetry, spiritual works, self-help and other diverse offerings that reflect the depth of African American storytelling traditions. Admission to the festival is free, giving Charlotte residents and visitors an opportunity to come together for a day focused on community, creativity and the power of the written word. Organizers encourage people across the region to attend, connect with local and national authors and celebrate the stories that continue to educate, inspire and leave a lasting impact.
