In early March, COVID-19 caused the travel industry to come to a screeching halt. One-by-one international and domestic borders closed to visitors, in hopes of flattening the curve and keeping locals safe.
Nearly four months later, the air travel industry is still struggling to recover as case numbers begin to rise again. In an effort to draw people in, carriers are offering more lenient cancellation options, as well as discounted routes in hopes that passengers will buy now and fly later.

Flight deals from Charlotte and updated travel policies
Delta and American Airlines are currently waiving change fees, one time only, for those who book tickets for travel through Sept. 30, 2020. You may be responsible for a difference in price if your flight price changes at the time of rebooking. Both airlines are allowing customers to rebook tickets as late as December 2021, with Delta extending that to December 2022.
Other carriers are offering similar options, but it is best to check with the individual airline before booking.
All major airlines require masks to be worn for the duration of the flight, and this will likely be the standard for a while. Many have also suspended alcohol and beverage service for domestic flights to minimize the need to take masks off or to use airplane restrooms.
When you decide to travel by air, be mindful of your destination’s current stay-at-home order or quarantine rules for visitors. Many international destinations are also requiring proof of a negative COVID test upon arrival. As of July 1, the European Union (EU) placed American travelers on the list of people banned from entering any of its 27 countries. The list will be reviewed every two weeks to make any necessary updates, based on COVID case number changes.
Americans can travel to Iceland and Britain, two nations that are not a part of the EU, but they will not be allowed to travel on to other EU countries once there.
