A North Carolina restaurant is a “hotspot” for breakfast and lunch dishes — and fans can’t get enough.

Now, the dining destination ranks as the No. 1 place to eat brunch in the state, according to results published April 14.

Young Cardinal Cafe & Co. in Winston-Salem tops the list from Yelp. To determine the best brunch restaurant in each state, the review website said it studied feedback left over time from Elite users, who are active on the platform.

“We identified businesses in the breakfast and brunch categories, then ranked those spots based on the volume and ratings of reviews given by Yelp Elite Squad members for each business,” the website wrote in its report.

The results were released before Mother’s Day, which falls this year on Sunday, May 11. Another review website, OpenTable, said 73% of moms want a family brunch to mark the occasion, according to survey results shared in a news release.

Why the brunch spot ranks No. 1 in NC

Though Mother’s Day is a popular time to go out for brunch, Young Cardinal Cafe has gained fans throughout the year. The restaurant in downtown Winston-Salem said its menu is “back to the basics with modern twists and fresh ingredients.”

One of the most popular menu items on the restaurant’s Yelp page is the hot honey chicken, which several customers said was packed with flavor. Others loved dishes ranging from french toast to breakfast burritos, helping the restaurant earn 4.6 out of 5 stars on the website.

In its report, Yelp called Young Cardinal Cafe a “hotspot for classic and simple breakfast and lunch fare. Their menu has many customizable options, like create your own hash and grits bowl and benedicts.”

It’s not the first time Young Cardinal Cafe has been recognized as a fan-favorite restaurant. In April 2024, Yelp named it one of the best brunch spots in the United States as people went online to rave about the food, customer service and outdoor seating, McClatchy News reported.
