What inspires Janine Davis? 3 simple questions for the Girl Talk Foundation founder

Continuing the weekly series of informal self-assessment, C5 sits down with a notable Charlottean to catch a rare, quick glimpse of her personal side through three intriguing questions:

(1) What are you reading?

(2) What are you listening to?

(3) What are you watching?

We will take the answers to these three questions and find the meaning, theme, or message.

Taking on the challenge of self-assessment this week is the ever-engaged Janine Davis, whose voice has been heard on WBAV-FM (V 101.9) and WPEG-FM (Power 98) but now works to empower middle school and high school girls in Charlotte.

How? By founding Girl Talk Foundation and serving as executive director.

(1) What are you reading?

I am reading the inspirational book “Reposition Yourself: Living Life Without Limits,” by T.D. Jakes. I am still going through this transition from working in radio to my current role with Girl Talk. I had to deal with the conflict of working for the money versus working for a cause… Additionally, I like to read the Bible. I have been reading the “Abide” prayer app on my phone … It provides me with a quick boost of inspiration.

(2) What are you listening to?

I have spent the most recent time listening to the song “How About Now” by Drake … I also listen to Pandora.  I prefer the eclectic, electronic dance and soul sounds of Samantha James, Lisa Shaw and Blue Six. I also listen to hip hop and adult contemporary music.

(3) What are you watching?

I am a Netflix junkie. If it is on Netflix, I love it. My favorites are “House of Cards” and “Orange is the New Black.” I love watching old psychological thrillers … anything by Alfred Hitchcock. With that in mind, I have been watching “Bates Motel” on A&E. I watch “Scandal” on ABC.

//><!--I have also been watching the reality show, “Married at First Sight,” on A&E … It is a very interesting social experiment.//--><!

So what does all of this mean?

I think it means I am a conscious thinker. I like things that have meaning. I am intentional about what I am doing, what my purpose is. Finding and maintaining my purpose is important. I am learning more about Janine every day.
