New coffee shop, wine and beer bar opens Friday in Villa Heights
For The Hobbyist owners Julie and Bryson Woodside, the new coffee shop, beer and wine bar will be exactly that: a reflection of their own hobbies as well as those of other local artisans.
“Bryson has always wanted a beer and coffee shop,” Julie Woodside said. “I don’t drink beer — I like wine.” Thus, the trio of beverage options. “We brainstormed names with friends, and these are all of Bryson’s hobbies put together.”
Their new space, described by Julie Woodside as “industrial and vintage-y,” will be equipped with Old English-style sconces, leather furniture and handmade (by Bryson Woodside and his dad) wood tables throughout.
It will open June 21 at 2100 North Davidson St. in Villa Heights.
The Woodsides will serve Counter Culture coffee; draft, canned and bottled beer; and wine by the glass or bottle. A local artist’s craft will be reflected on one of the walls: Sharon Dowell has designed and will paint a mural that will resemble old watch gears, along with references to hops and coffee.
Local items for sale
With a focus on carrying as many North Carolina items as possible, local custom candles will be for sale. Area food artisans will also have a place here, in the form of Gateau on Main in Davidson, Beverly’s Gourmet Foods and Queen Charlotte’s Pimento Cheese available in the grab-and-go area. Customers can select food and beverages and enjoy them on site or at home.
The coffee bar will separate from the wine and beer bar, located near the front entrance for those who want to stop in for a pour-over, drip coffee or espresso drink on the way to work.
A patio with a skyline view will connect the interior with a roll-up garage door. Nearby will be a giant, bar-height Bryson-Woodside-original table that can be rolled outdoors during nice weather. A blue leather wraparound booth will invite those who want to cozy up inside with a glass of red or a latte.
The best part of creating a space that is a reflection of one’s hobbies? “I get to spend time with my dad,” Bryon Woodside said. His dad has been coming from Denver, North Carolina, about four days a week to lend a hand. “I learned a lot from my dad; we’ve always worked on projects together. I haven’t been able to do that in 20 years.”
The shop will be open both early and later 7 days a week: 6:30 a.m.-9 p.m., with slight fluctuation on the weekends.
