Lincoln’s Haberdashery, the new neighborhood hangout in South End that doubles as a fast-casual restaurant and grocery, opens to the public today at 1300 S. Blvd., Ste. S. This is the latest concept by Michael Shortino of hip ramen hole-in-the-wall Futo Buta and it will be open 7 a.m.-6 p.m. over the next week before regular hours kick in.

Whereas Futo Buta has a crowded, warm vibe, this establishment is more spacious, with charming nooks for tables and chairs and couches, not to mention the “Babe Lincoln” mural.

The haberdashery features pet retail (from $4 bully sticks to $1 peanut brittle), a retail wall of wine (complete with a sliding ladder), knick knacks and succulents for sale in handcrafted pots, and grocery items like honeys, sauces, and jams. A late-night menu and a patio are expected to be added.

As Lincoln’s reminded us via Instagram: “A ‘haberdashery’ most commonly was a place where a haberdasher sold notions, sundries, and clothing accessories. In true restaurant conceptualization, we took on the spirit of the ‘haberdasher’ to influence our menu, retail items, and interior design.”

Let’s look at the menus, which feature coffees, libations, sandwiches, salads and breakfast items:

Sandwiches include the Grilled Cheese with Gruyere, shallots and thyme ($8.75) and the Garden Party with chick pea, mint chutney, arugula, shaved red onion and tomato salad ($9).

Salads include the Garbage Can with iceberg, poached chicken, bacon, avocado, blue cheese, green onion, egg and more ($10), and the Quinoa, with arugula, cucumber, tomato, pepita, dried fruit, almonds and sunflower seeds ($10).

Don’t overlook the morning menu, with stuffed flap jacks and avocado toast.

All food is made in-house, including pastries and sweets (like pecan coconut cookies) and ice creams (like the Frozen Forager with portabella mushroom and chocolate).

Bonuses

While you’re there, grab a brew or wine by the glass, and take note of the mimosa kits, complete with fresh-squeezed orange juice and bubbles ($24.99), the limited loaves of bread baked every morning ($4) and the container of olive oil from Queen Creek, Ariz. ($14/btl.).

There’s something to find every time you turn a corner here. Keep your eyes open. And maybe kick back on a comfy chair to take it all in.
