Pepperbox Doughnuts announces store opening in South End

The owners behind Pepperbox Doughnuts announced that they signed a lease for their first brick and mortar store in the Design Center of the Carolinas in South End at 1930

Camden Road. They hope to open by fall.

South End’s Design Center of the Carolinas was sold to a company affiliated with Charlotte-based Asana Partners in 2016, with plans to create a shopping destination. Asana Partners could not be reached Thursday to confirm tenants for the space.

Pepperbox, owned by native Charlotteans Alex Beebe and Nate DeVillers, has been in business for two years and has focused on pop-ups and special events at Red Clay Ciderworks, Tip Top Daily Market, Free Range Brewing and other area locations, according to a press release.

Their specialty: Fried doughnuts with a yeast-raised vegan base enhanced by specialty toppings. Think Peanut Butter Fig, Black Miso Caramel and Pineapple Black Pepper Bacon, as well as traditional flavors and toppings.

The owners announced that they also plan to serve Durham-based Counter Culture coffees, teas and other non-alcoholic beverages.

“We’ve already established a great rapport with South End folks through our pop-ups at Red Clay Ciderworks,” DeVillers said in a press release. “We’re looking forward to

being part of a wonderfully curated area for dining and being able to bring our novel ideas and style to a brick and mortar.”
