A self-serve craft beer and wine taproom opens in South End next month
Rich Moyer, owner of Two Scoops Creamery, plans to open Hoppin’, a self-serve craft beer and wine taproom, next month in South End.
The taproom will debut its iPour technology — the first of its kind in Charlotte — in mid to late October.

Last year, Moyer and his business partners became inspired by the iPour technology, developed by a company in California. In April of this year, the Hoppin’ crew signed a lease for the two story, 4,600 square-foot space at 1402 Winnifred St. near Bulldog Beer and Wine in South End.
“Location is key,” said Moyer. “Everyone wants to be close to the football stadium and with everything going on in South End, we got lucky.”
Here’s how it works:
Upon arrival, you’ll swipe your ID and credit card at one of two checkpoints. From there, you’ll use a wristband that’s linked to your credit card to get your drink of choice from one of the 62 taps of beer and wine (including rosé and champagne). Each tap has a 7-inch computer screen to give you the details of each beverage.
According to North Carolina law, you’re only allowed to get 32 ounces of alcohol at a time. If you want more, you’ll need to go back to a checkpoint to refill.
The Hoppin’ staff will monitor people and cut them off like a regular bartender if need-be. A mobile app will also keep track of your drinks and to notify you if a beer is running low.
Inside the space, you’ll find a modern classic design with neutral colors, natural plants and a few live moss walls. Downstairs will have all hard seating with high tops and low tops along with three 85-inch TVs and two smaller TVs on the walls. Upstairs will have a softer, lounge-ier vibe.
“It won’t be a sports bar but it will be a cool spot to relax to watch games,” said Moyer.
There will also be a stage for live music, dart boards, a Golden Tee Golf arcade game and free WiFi. Outside will be a huge patio with outdoor seating, a TV and a fireplace.
Check out more of the interior and exterior here.
Food will be provided by Kre8 Experiences at first. Hoppin’ plans to have its own menu in the future.

Hoppin’ hasn’t set its hours yet but will be open seven days a week.
“We want Hoppin’ to be unique and different,” said Moyer. “When people ask where they should get a drink, we want to be on the top of the list.”
